yes, i totally agree. You will love CDMA2000 when you have use it even for the first time. It's better than GSM. WCDMA over 2100 is costly system.
My wish list is always a CDMA2000 1x EV-DO operator at Malaysia.. at least if DiGi was given the license.. They will do well....

well,, recently i have changed my mobilephone to a unit that can select either 900, 1800 or dualband... Found that Maxis only has limited GSM1800 spot, where Celcom has GSM1800 in comparable to their GSM900. So I suggest if you have a choice, why not just fix yr handset to GSM1800 only for Celcom. Thenm those radio interence over 900MHz will eventually be in RIP...

Skyhill, since you're enjoying unlimited GPRS/3G/WiFi I think this is a good time for you looking for nearest hotspots (and sipping few cups of cappuccinos of course lah) |

Even I'm at places with WiFi service, I think I'll still prefer to connect using 3G via cellular network. WiFi cannot guarantee the quality of service, especially at high traffic sites, you might be getting lower speeds with higher latency. GPRS offers limited downlink capability, and it's already not suitable for bandwidth hungry application, even webpages nowadays added more pictures than 56k modem era.

Don't think so because Telenor is providing GSM based service like Australia's Telstra, Hong Kong's Hutchison and UK Vodafone. So, DiGi will not consider to promote or develop CDMA service even if they're given spectrum to operate CDMA here.

Actually it's not a problem for me to access Internet via 3G all the time, except one or two days out of 365 days a year. The downtime is in fact less than 2 hours in a year. It only happens when Celcom does some upgrade works to the cell.
Well, for GSM 1800, it's still connected to GPRS, which I think it's no more enough for huge data transfer. Even the speed is somehow similar to 56k dial up modem, but many webpages have transformed into better layout with more images shown than 2-3 years earlier. So, it's still not a better choice.
And of course, Celcom has GSM 1800 sites at almost every town and city. But they're still transmitting mainly on GSM 900 system. There's no Celcom GSM 1800 service available here at the place I live, so don't think it will work anyway.
Maxis has GSM 1800 service installed only at high traffic sites. Other than that, you're more likely to be connected on their GSM 900 network. Maxis is the service provider that has the largest number of base station system installed in Klang Valley region, not Celcom or DiGi.

I don't have a phone that supports service log on to only single band. My phone has GSM 900/1800 but not GSM 900 or GSM 1800 seperately.
There are phones that supports either GSM 900 or GSM 1800 or both at the time same. These phones don't have WCDMA/UMTS mode, so no point for me to use it for voice/data communication.

In deed. The handset that I have can change from connection to either G900, 1800 or dualband mode. As monitored on 1800, Maxis only has high tarffic sites covered on 1800. Those are much at KL City but less at Selangor. Maxis does use 1800 to cover most indoor shopping mall. However I wonder how efficient it will be as GSM handset literally using power for basestation uplink determination. Usually 1800 band db level is much lesser to 900. Those GSM handset will tend to connect to 900 basestation instead of 1800, unless there is really no 900 cover in a particular area.
Thats explain why Maxis 3G users always face problem of lossing the WCDMA connection but fall back to GPRS.
However Celcom has much GSM1800 as a result from deployment of old TMTouch station. Their GSM1800 is as strong as the GSM900.
So far has not observe any GSM900 on DiGi altho they are being awarded to use E-GSM900 band.

Yes, you can get Digi's GSM900 network somewhere in Banting/Panglima Garang/Teluk Gong area in Selangor. There is also one in Kg Sg Penchala. You can check it out.

Hopefully we'll see TM will further expand its CDMA coverage especially for basement shopping and carparks.
