I tried and tested for CDMA voice quality at a few nightclubs and disco around KLCC, Jln Sultan Ismail and Jln P Ramlee area. So far, I do not have problem access the TM's network except in Zouk Club KL. Indoor signal there is quite weak except with Maxis line.

Maxis has indoor antenna on the ceiling board of Zouk. You may observed the round shape white piece mounted on the ceiling. It's Maxis indoor antenna.

If you say from TM insider source? Most probably you'll get incorrect information. TM staffs are too committed to Telekom and each and everyone you ask, from front desk to technical support, even till RF engineers, they'll claim that you'll find one CDMA tower in every 5-10 GSM towers.

But the truth is not. My souces are obtained directly from MCMC and also site observation and testing. So far it's brother GSM to it's own CDMA cell ratio in Klang Valley is somewhere between 35:1.

Impossible to say you have tower installed at a location X but my phone reports signal strength of 50% at a distance 10meters from tower X, repeatedly for two weeks time. You might have CDMA tower there to serve your own community, may be it's not publicly open, it's still under initial testing stage, or you've just put up your antennas.

Impossible CDMA was installed in every 5-10km of GSM station as CDMA is much robust and a wide band on RF compared to GSM narrow band RF. In fact the distance can be as 300% more than GSM set.

Anyway, it shouldnt be observing signal by way of 10 meters from a tower. The RF is implemented as in sectorised and have many side wave. You may only get side wave of in shadow area when you are just 10 meters away. It's much different of RF design in a local/domestic WiFi environment.

In fact connecting CDMA 1xRTT data service do not required you to dial any number, therefore either 1515 or 1525 is merely a dummy number to authenticate your account. To establish a data connection, it's like GPRS, but TM significantly request "dial up" for CDMA is just a effort to incorporate CDMA system into their existing ISDN network.

Dial up access is not necessary to establish a packet data connection.

Thanks for the clearification. Yeah, at first it puzzle me on how can a packet data connection need a circuit switch data connection dial up procedure? Now it's clear... However TM charge on time instead of data in usage.. Hmm.. sometimes it's better rate than data... imagine those junk mails and nice beautiful shockwave page which eat up much data (money) that we paid ...

I used to have a TimeCel (Adam) line which charge GPRS on minutes and you know what... It's better rate..

oh...Australian Telstra is not purposely terminating the CDMA2000 on 800MHz but wanan to implement WCDMA over the existing 800 (850)Mhz.

See this quote by Telstra.. "Based on the technology available at the time, CDMA provided the best means of addressing coverage issues in rural and regional areas. However, development of 3G technology on the same frequency band as CDMA allows us to provide like-for-like coverage, but with the additional features available on 3G."

Thus Telstra can provide 3G services on existing 850MHz frequency which must be used for vast area of Australia... Early I was thinking of Telstra implement WCDMA over 2100MHz for outback which is impossible.

Telstra barnd the service as Next G Mobile. Meanwhile telco at US are also implement it over 850MHz which is very good for vast areas....

Convergence of technologies will never happen in this world, as we're using different spectrum band and wireless protocols. Australia is trying to make WCDMA the standard of 3G, running on 850/1900 MHz.

Well frankly speaking, no matter how WCDMA evolves, it will never preceds the flexibility of CDMA2000 technology. CDMA EV-DO Rev A offers downlink data rates that's comparable to WCDMA's HSDPA. When CDMA2000 develops till 3xRTT, GSM based technology will need to move beyond 3G. But can WiMax becomes a standard that allows interoperability of both CDMA2000 and GSM-based system? I don't think so.

I've some difficulties accessing Internet right now. My 3G connection lost 30 minutes ago, now I'm on GPRS only network. I guess Celcom is doing network equipment upgrade at my area. I'm not sure if they're upgrading the 3G towers here to HSDPA or something, I don't know.

I can't stand with GPRS connection. Whenever my line switches from 3G to GSM, the interference happens again. The disturbance is so strong on my speakers that I can't play music or something. There's also flicking effect on my monitor screen. I hate it. So, CDMA is the way to go, even at 850 MHz, it's very environmental friendly.

Skyhill, since you're enjoying unlimited GPRS/3G/WiFi I think this is a good time for you looking for nearest hotspots (and sipping few cups of cappuccinos of course lah)
