Here to post something that I want to tell all our members! About what small tricks that I found on using Nokia 6600.(Most tricks applicable to Nokia 7610 too) Well, what I know may be just normal to most people. However, there may be people who do not know. If anyone who know other please feel free to post some information. Here goes... :
1. Some nice N6600's photo!

2. Switching applications, just press and hold the menu button. select the application and confirm
3. From time to time, we may be installed many type of Java games. However, some games cann't be exit or terminated. To close it, you may use Application Manager
4. Press and hold "0" to go WAP.
5. There is way to unlock passworded MMC. May need another freeware.
6. If you want your handphone LIGHT to be on 24 hrs, (no black screen). Just run an application Torch, put it into background mode. You may do any other stuffs without any light off!
When we having a keypad-locked case. Pressing the Power button would bring the light on. And this is the only way to see the content without releasing lock of keypad.
7. For short 3gps videos, you can use UVSMStyle to make editing. It's really a great software! Some short 3gps combined to become a long movie files.
8. Never use any Themes. for speed wise... Nevertheless, I do use themes.
Tips or suggestion for facing hang or lag problems while using N6600 with graphic intensive theme. This is one of the problem for Symbian phones with graphic theme. Sometime bad design theme compiled with errors may bring harms to your phone! My sister is a master of this! She never use any theme. But using the method of changing the logo operator, and some graphic application in symbian. She manage to make her phone so beautiful and unique! Therefore, she never use theme. Doing so, speeding up her phone!
9. Turn the light to the most low! for comsuption power!
10. Make many folders to categorised the image files. Thus when openning it. I can see the items before my phone light off! Most of the time, if you store many image files in one single directory. You have to wait and wait for displaying its' content!
Examples of folders structures
image
my love and friends
love 50 pics
friends 100 pics
scene and cartoon
scene 100 pics
cartoon 150 pics
Try to set max 150 pics in each folder. In my phone, stored 3000 plus photos. but when i do viewing. I can get the picture i want before it light off! Those photos are resized to suit the requirements in item 29 to gain loading speed advantages.
11. Never use any screen saver as I do not want to charge my phone everyday! However, if you want screen saver for your Symbian phone, try Powerlock . It it only screen saver you want for your Symbian phone.
12. Of course sometime the phone slow because they are background applcation running. Then always tried to use Menu button, call out the application list. Press "C" button to terminate them.
13. Hidden features for senting SMS effectively. U create a new message. At the To: field , u can actually switch to alpha mode, then instead of entering a number, u enter the first letter of the person that u're sending the sms to, for example 'D'. Then u press Down, and u compose the sms as usual. Then when u click send, a list will appear of the ppl that start the letter 'D'.
14. If you arranged all your folders in 3x3. Then each folder has 9 applications or 9 games. You may use the number 1 till 9 to have quickaccess! Avoid heave usage for Navigator control.
15. Themes that may changed the normal folder icons are called SisterPricess1, Windows Media Center and Windows Media Center 2. I did browsed through over few thoudsands theme. At last, I found these are the only 3 I needed! No any other themes can change your phone folder icons!
SisterPricess1 does has very nice pictures, if you are a femele, for sure you will love that!
Currently, I am busy finding Mashimaro themes. If any member here does have that, please let me know. I will really appreciate your help. Just cann't find any Mashimaro theme for Symbian phones.
Some introduction about Mashimaro.
A breakdancing Mashimashi GIF image
This site is hosting some Mashimaro fun stories.
All the epsodes(flash Macromedias form) make tons of people falling in love with him! Hope you have fun watching those flash medias.
23th March 2005 updated: May click on the themes link to download. Just rename the theme files sis and install into your phone!
16. We all know about Explorers. Well, there are many symbian explorers. Among them, we got Ximplify SeleQ, FExplorer, SmartFileMan, and ProfiExplorer. I know not much about Ximplify SeleQ.
FExplorer is the first explorer in my phone. It can be use to set your operator logo. Moreover, when deleting files. If the files are readonly, it will prompt you for deletion.
SmartFileMan is a great application that allow you to set attributes of files. E.g. Archive? Read only? Hidden? System? Process subfolders? Making some files or folders hided from the phone! or remain protected from viewing by some people. Sorting among files are possible by Name, Extension, size, date and type.
This ProfiExplorer by lonelyCat is the best Explorer as it break the sending protected file via bluetooth! Means, you may send any files for your nokia phone to anyone via bluetooh, or InfraRed. Moreover, if you view any txt files, it gives you nearly fullscreen pictures! Speed of browsing files are the fastest.
Since all 3 Explorers do have their own unique purpose, I keep all three in my Nokia 6600!
17. If you do have Card Reader for your MMC or RS-MMC.(recommended to buy one) After using it for a long time, 6 months?!, 1 years?!. Files installed, deleted,... uninstalled and etc happened in your MMC. You may use Card Reader to do scandisk and Deframentation on your MMC. After the process, your phone will become faster and back to normal to lower any corrupted MMC chances. Most importantly, you will not have a "hanging" phone.
Cautions: Deframentation and scandisk may correct your files system if it found any errors. Thus after process. Your MMC may corrupted if the MMC initially already have wrong file structure. My advice is do backup before using item 17, and all on your own risk.
18. Some best applications, UltraMP3 for playing mp3, Resco Viewer for viewing pictures, PhotoBase Mobile Edition for Series60 for pictures editing. SmartMovie for playing avi movies, Powerlock for Animated screen saver, Facewave for Voice MMS, CameraFX for camera, 3GPP Philips Camcoder PRO for Nokia 6600 for unlimited time cam. Try your best to get your Chinese-English Dictionary work! Since my N6600 is in firmware V 3.48.0, ETI Camcorder Pro is not working in my phone! (lazy to upgrade it)
19. You may change your symbian font type, but not the font size! Till now, I have find no way to change the small font size in my N6600. I have been trying my best to look for way of changing font size. Just no luck!
20. No way to play any AAC files in N6600. And no way to have MP3 ringtone, and of course, no way to have FM Radio.... haha. Please do not trust that Oggplay can have MP3 ringtone in your N6600, i tried before. Not working.
hmmm, AAC problem solved here.
hmmm, Nokia 6600's MP3 ringtone support solved.

21. Nokia 6230 can have Karaoke! Yes, Nokai 6600 can Karaoke too, Please click here for your lovely 100% free Karaoke JAVA application. Of course, I do have download many Karaoke from that site.
For each download, there is a time-frame for the songs. Multiple downloads are necessary. I have unintalled my first download. Never use it anymore, however it is good to know such application and nice to try out new stuff!
22. In view of many phone users are still using monoscreen phone. Thus, PhotoSMS become quite handy. In a way that it can modify the photo image into the mono colour photo. So that you may send your snapped photo to your friends who still using monoscreen phones. Personally i using it quite often!
23. Guess I should mention about bluetoothing, and phone memory problem. The solution is to make the saving into the MMC instead of the phone memory. Since the Nokia 6600 just have 6MB internal memory. First, go to the messaging, then setting. Scroll all the way down to the option "others". Make the save option to the MMC. In this way, if you want to bluetooth a 10MB files, and if your destination phone have free MMC over than 10MB. No problem at all.
Bluetoothing experiences
6600 vs 6680
-If the bluetooth name of 6680 is .~Name~ then,
sending from 6680 to 6600, success
sending from 6600 to 6680, failed
Reason being is that, the bluetooth name in 6680 is invalid to the firmware of 6600. However, for bluetoothing from 6680 to 6680, there is no problem.
6600 vs Samsung SGH-E530c
When doing the first time bluetoothing,
In Samsung SGH-E530c, it need the user to input a pin for bluetoothing approval, after entering the valid pin. In phone 6600, I got to enter the same and valid PIN from Samsung to allow sending process.
About this, am not so sure if there is any setting preset in the Samsung phone? However, if doing bluetoothing withing any other Nokia phone models, I never face this kind of experiences. May be this is what people called "Security issues"?
Besides, for these 2 models. There is no way for us to send any Java games from Nokia 6600 to Samsung SGH-E530c. Since Samsung does not allow this process at all. I would say this is a good feature by Samsung. Nevertheless, as we all knew... with Nokia Symbian phones. Bluetoothing Java games within 2 Nokia's phone does not bringing any problems.
6600 vs Sony Ericsson K700i
No problem so far, and one advantage is... can send Java games, and installation in K700i is flawlessly okay!
6600 vs Nokia 6230i
Bluetoothing any files does not have any problems. However, since N6230i is Nokia Series 40 phone model, Java games can be sent but no installation allowed.
24. About battery life and care, I am using the original Nokia battery. Just for information as comparing how long my N6600 battery can last long. I charge it till full on 26th March night. On 27th morning start using it, in normal phone usage, not listening to any MP3 songs or running any applications and games. The battery finished on 3pm, 29th March. Thus, it takes approximately about 63 hours. Kind of at a satisfaction condition, i guess.
Try this interesting Nokia official site battery games to see your understanding about Nokia batteries.
Mobile88 member klee has gaven us very professional information about battery life his topic! Click here for details.
Please click here for informative topic Battery care in Mobile88 forum.
Charging battery time should be only 1 h 35 minutes. Anyway, if we using the original Nokia BL-5C battery. Whenever charging is complete, there is a message displayed. http://www.simbatelecom.com/nokia_models/6600.jpg
Second attempt in measuring the battery life time is 66 hours. This time I am smarter already, as I using stopwatch in my watch to count.
Thus, taking the average at approximately 64.5 hours.
25. Since Nokia 6600 is using Symbian OS 7. You may interested actually what phone models in the market are actually a symbian OS phone? Well, you may click here to check all COMFIRM symbian phone list. If the phone name not listed in this web site. I doubt that the phone you interested may be using other operating system.
Remember: I was told that if 2 phones are in Symbian OS. That does not mean you can have all same Symbian applications or games installed in both phones. This was discussed in Mobile88 forum too, however I really cann't remember in which topic by now.
It related to phone using Symbian UIQ and etc... ?!
edifgrto wrote:
Just have a browse for SE P910i. It is a Symbian Os7.0, just same as my phone! Thus does that mean, all the programs or games in my N6600 can be installed into this SE P910i? Can anyone confirm that?

28. Connecting PC with N6600 for internet, so that we can use 6600 to go online.
Reason for doing :
I. There is a good reason for doing that: The kids are on the pc, (and I would like to do it in the bathroom!)
II. Some family only have 1 computer to surf the net, then 10 people is using the same pc.
III. Providing additional platform to surf net 100%, as connection between phone and pc is via bluetooth.
Well, this may be too technical for people like me. However, this is really exciting to know! Soluction can be found in topic here. Showing someone in the earth has manage to do this. While Nokia official site will not provide any information on this topic. Click here for more instructions. I have not tried it out myself, but happy to know that it works fine for N6600 firmware 3.42.1.
29. About gallery collection in N6600. As mentioned, it is wise to resize the pictures to the size of phone screen. Great photo editor i think is ACDSee Version 4.0 Power Pack Suite. As this version allow us to do resizing the pictures according to the size we need for our phones. In Nokia 6600, browsing in Multimedia folder. The size of photo is 176x144. However, for fullscreen browsing with Resco Viewer. The size of photo is best at 208x176. Benefit with resized picture is the speed of loading! I just wander is there any Gif editor for symbian phone?
30. If you want your N6600 to run faster then u need to go to the main menu select log and set the log to 1 day. Some N6600 secret codes are
*#06# ==> Phone Firmware version
*#0000# ==> Firmware version
*#2820# ==> Bluetooth setting address
*126# ==> Balance summary (Digi phone network only)
*128# ==> Digi menu options (Digi phone network only)
Question: what is a hard reset?
Answer: Hard reset means: all settings, all contacts, all installed programs - everything cleared and reset back to initial factory state. In soft reset only the programs that run in memory will be stopped.
slurpy69 from other forum wrote:
| Mobile flashing is basically installing a newer firmware (operating software) for your phone. Hard format is to reset everything and makes the phones system the way they are when you first got them. |

31. My MP3 experiences. I understand that Nokia symbian phones like 6600, 7610, 6670 and etc are mono speaker phones. However, I tried on same kbs, Mhz, but one with mono, and the other is stereo. The quanlity of the MP3 are totaly much better in stereo! Have anyone notice that? Or my ears got problem in listening stereo MP3?
So, my experience in MP3 are as follows:
i. Given 1 MP3 with setting 64kbs. Then via converting to high kbs, that does not increase the quanlity of the converted MP3! Convertion comes to handy if we need to shrink down the size of MP3. Will only make the quanlity of MP3 lower. May be you can try to convert one 8kbit mono MP3 song to a 256kbit stereo MP3 song. See if you can get a good result?
ii. If looking for a good quanlity MP3. We should rip them from Original Audio CD into the highest setting(Studio setting). Say, I rip one MP3 from Audio CD. Gain the 256kbit 44.1kHz MP3 file. So, this MP3 become your best quanlity MP3 with 8 or 9 MB in size. Dun worry,.... convert it to a setting that satisfy you with a smaller size. As a result, you can compare your converted MP3 with your friends MP3. Which is the same setting. You will notice that, same setting MP3s can give you different quanlity. Kind of odds indeed?!
The software I used to rip is Nero Ahead.
Does anyone know what I am saying? Since sometime, my english quite confussing people. sorry for my poor english.
iii. May be I am type of stubborn minded person, my phone just keep the first ripped MP3s from Audio CD. No convertion after that, as I think that is the best MP3 I can get. Playing with UltraMP3, wow.... you will feel surprise! Of course, my MP3 collection in my phone is small due to the dinosour sizing. Really hope can have 1GB MMC installed.
Below are some information i collected from the net.
medasa from Iran: N7610's MP3, 40Kbps, 44KHz, Mono
mirkocrocop from Zagreb, Croatia: N6630's MP3, 64Kbps, 22KHz, stereo
divine from ? :
64kbps 44.1kHz Mono if you intend to use them as ringtones.
128kbps 44.1kHz Mono for complete songs.
Ideal wav configuration for N7610 : 64kbps mono 22100hz

34. Finding on copying texts and pictures in N6600.
i. Copying texts in N6600. In message received folder,
Sometime we may need to copy and paste some valuable texts in the message into our notes. Use option, forward so that we can use the cursor. Press and hold the "pen" button, and highlight what you want to copy with the navigator control button. Without releasing the "pen" button, you can actually do copying since left soft button will change to 'copy' on your phone screen.
After done copying, here... you can go to "notes", "to do list" or any application and do pasting of the text you copied in the same way with "pen" button.
ii. When discussing on copying text in the phone. One forumer from other forum did asked how do we copy text when we are doing WAP surfing? This seems really new to me, as I never think of that before! Hence, I purposely do a surfing, going to Digi menu, Nokia Wap sites etc. No luck in finding any solution.
The result of discussion in that forum is no solution as well. :(
If anyone knowing the methods or by use of any symbian application, please kindly update me!
iii. About copying pictures on the N6600, Please click WiB Screen Capture 1.01 for details.
On top of this, the new version of FExplorer V1.13 or later(download site: www.gosymbian.com) provided a phone screen snap feature. The steps are...
Options->Tools->Turn ScreenShot ON
Just follow the instruction on screen. Everything will be on the way. Message: FExplorer switching to background, press "ABC"+"0" to capture. The files will be saved in "c:\nokia\images\FE_img". Note: This "ABC" is the button that with a "Pen"
icon but not the "2 abc" button.

36. One interesting topic discussed by me in other forum. If somehow not related to N6600, but if we think carefully. It seems just the same...
Should I upgrade 6630 to 6680?
It can be changed to :-
Should I upgrade 6600 to 6670? 7610? 6630 or 6680?
This applying to similar topics we may encounter in Mobile88 too! Sometime I ask myself, does that really got so much stuffs to talk about this 122grams "Soap" phone(N6600)? Yeah, indeed... If you do exact searching on "All about Nokia 6600" with Google search. It will give you over 4,560 web links. That is my search result recently. Below is information I quoted for your reference...

But now after reading many forums, reviews, I still don't find any good reason to get 6680..I am afraid of regretting purchase decision of the 6680 if i get it... My litthe thought. Hi, sharing my taughts with you. Hope you will not mind, i purposely quote what you said as a reference for what I gonna write. Summary : 4 mths old 6630, 7610 3 mths old.... now thinking to buy 6680! What i thinking is you got $$$. and may be darn rich! huh?
Well, my history of using phone is Alcatel phones (forgot about the model)for 2 yrs, Nokia 3315 for 1 yrs, Nokia 6600 for 1 year till now! I guess, if you like phones, then,... why not spend more time to explore the phone in your hand? Instead of change another one after just 3 mths or 4 mths? Do you think you manage to explore the information of the phone with only 3 mths time? I am not crashing you here, but just that this is what I am thinking.... I hope you feel easy with me! mate,...
Now, I am using N6600 for 1 years old,... i still digging information of it.... may be I am slow in learning. Moreover, changing a new phone for me. May not easy for me. Just as what you facing here! Is that good to change phone? Then... which phone should I pick? etc. Most importantly,... about your interest on your phone! |

37. Some applications are too slow in my phone! For example exiting OGGplay, the phone seems just hanging?!
Suggestion: Regarding the oggplay, sometime the lagging of phone depends on the location the application installed! For example,
The speed of application loading is:
10 of 10 if installed into the phone memory!
or
2 out 10 if installed into the memory card!
Tips in freeing some phone memory is try to set the messaging storage into your memory card. Instead of your phone memory!
(Referring to item 23 above bluetoothing)
Advice: Try to figure out which application that is the most important to you. And install it into your phone memory. e.g. I installed my UltraMP3 into my phone memory!
38. Tips in hiding applications installed in your Symbian phone exclude ROM apps!
i. Using any Symbian explorer(refering item 16 above) application to go to the application-to-be-hided directory.
ii. Rename or add 'A' or any character in front of that '.app' file.
iii.Exit from the symbian explorer, and you will see no more about your application just renamed.
Personally, i have try this on my N6600. And it works perfectly, after renaming back to original application name. It reappears again in your main menu screen.
Alternatively, you can try this trick:
i . Using Filemanager by SymbianWare
ii . Highlight the application you wanna hide. Say Torch(dun go to its content)
iii. Press option, and set selected directory attribute hidden to on(choose Set Attr)
iv . The Torch icon is gone!
v . This trick does not apply to ROM applications, since their attribute are READ-ONLY.
vi . To reappear, do vise versa
Caution: Try on your own risk, as this just for your information. Normally it is nothing to hide about the application in your phone. Unless, you are a naughty person.
39. Hiding the general Nokia menu screen.
As refering to item 38 above, instead of hiding any icon or folder in Series 60 phones. In fact, I really do not know why some users want to hide something in the phone from someone.
However, I just notice that there is one application called "ActiveToday for Series 60"!
So, using that you can by pass the normal Nokia main menu screen. I mean there is a setting that you can set it off and vice versa(No more menu screen!). Then just put in any shoctcut icons you want! 41. Call Waiting feature
May be kind of funny that when I firstly getting this N6600 18 months ago. I am busy with digging available applications, looking for freewares and etc. However, by chances, I exploded the option:
'Setting'->'Conversation setting'->'Call Waiting'.
By activating this Call waiting feature. I can have multiple calls in quene, without any not accessable problems by other people while I am having phone call. This is new to me, and yet being using it for 18 months. Now only found out this feature. I guess, I am really a smartuser for this smartphone.
There are more funny stuff when I was actually trying on Voice command feature in N6600 in public.

My pleasure to share with you here! And also anyone whom may insterested.
Let me see...
I have done everything already. Since my phone does not have many applications installed. Below are some finding...
Before,
i. Can have chinese
ii. Does have Chinese dictionary
iii. Cam becoming lag if over 30 seconds
iv. No stuff of Maxis for WAP, GPRS and MAIL box setting
v. Slow(as comparing after upgraded)
vi. Built in Application Manager take ages to load,...
vii. Never check if what language the phone can use
viii.100% of the applications run perfectly
ix. Font in chinese are so small!!!
x. Busy doing some backup, copying the name cards into the Sim Card, Wrote out all the notepad information. Since I never use those Nokia PC something before!
xi. Firmware version
V 3.xx.x
During process,
-No need to hand in,
a. Receipt
b. Sim Card
c. MMC
d. back cover
-Being told to wait for 1 hour, however after 30 minutes. I get back my phone already
-The staff(s) never touch my phone. She just asking me to take out everything myself. Seems here is some kind of protection/ways doing, i guess.
-The staff also seems do not know all the phone models. She may just ask you what phone model in your hand. Then check if upgrade needed?!
-Joined the Nokia contest, just write a slogan and told that, may win a Nokia mobile phone. Plus exclusive Nokia watches.
So, I wrote xxx xxx xxx xxx. Therefore, going to have a brick phone very soon. :P
-Being told that, mine is AP set. RM20.00 gone...
-Felt a bit uneasy to let go the phone for just 1 hour... that time. :shy:
After,
i. 100% totally in English
ii. NO Chinese dictionary, it is gone!
iii. Cam becomes perfect, no lag at all!
iv. Maxis WAP, GPRS and MAIL box are all preset inside. Good news to Maxis users!
v. Instantly fast, no matter in what process. Seems like newly born Initial D class mobile.
vi. Application Manager loading is instant, even after all necessary installations are done!
vii. Language support set in Phone settings(General) are English, Malay, Indonesia. However, after the chinese software installed by the handphone shop. Seems I cann't go in the setting again? Dun know why?
viii. Nearly 80% of the applications need to be installed again. Good that,... i seldom play with that anymore.
ix. Font in English are big, however, since I need the chinese stuffs. After installing,... it becomes smaller than before upgrade.
x. One small free gift!
xi. Decide not to use those Things to do, Notepad already. Since I do not know how to make backup of them. May be me lazy to find out the way.
xii. Firmware version
V 5.53.0
30-12-04
NHL-10
Summary for 42,
-That is all I can find for the moment. Not sure about the rest. Since just done yesterday only!
-Where can I find those default Chinese dictionary? I thought it should come by default huh?
-As at 9th July 2005,... installed dictionary! Yeah!!!!
My advice is that, please never ever miss any Nokia Care events if you using Nokia phones.

-Many handphone users omitted SAR information. In fact, this is crucial before any phone is confirmed save to be use.
