DIGI.COM Bhd has confirmed that it is eyeing one of the two 3G
(high-speed third-generation mobile phone infrastructure) licences
still available from the Government.
DiGi chief technical officer Jon Eddy said the telecommunications
company is in preliminary talks with the Malaysian Communications and
Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on the matter.
“Even though DiGi did not submit a formal application for the
licence in the past two years, we have always been interested,” Eddy
told reporters at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering with orphans in
Kuala Lumpur over the weekend.
“We have relaunched our initiative to secure the licence in the
past two months, and we are now working closely with the commission and
the Water, Energy and Communications Ministry. We will keep you posted
on any new developments,” said Eddy.
It was reported that DiGi’s subsidiary DiGi Telecommunications Sdn
Bhd has relaunched a bid to apply for the 3G mobile phone high spectrum
licence.

ya ... Kudus DiGi .... the most challenging task for Digi now is
how they expand their coverage which is their biggest weakness.

digi coverage is their biggest problem. because they need to build 2 network tower to fight maxis 1 network tower. maxis 1 network tower can go to 9 km. but digi can go for 4 km only. thats what i heard.

kita rasa baik Digi laburkan dulu utk menambahkan kawasan liputan
terlebih dahulu, biar setanding dgn 019 mahupun 012. Lepas tu barulah
nak 3G ke 10 G ka.

Sehari sebelum Aidilfitri aku surfing web digi lihat senarai kawasan liputan digi.Melompat gembira aku bila lihat kawasan Sg.Manik dalam daearah hilir Perak tersenarai sama.Selepas sampai kat kampung aku bersiar-siar di Pekan Langkap beli simecard digi 0165297433 dan terus aktifkan.Balik rumah kunun nak bagi kakak tukar sime card sebab 012 dan 019 tak berapa baik line kat sana.Tapi malang signal digi lagi lemah drp 019 dan 012 .Sekejap dapat 2 bar , lepas tu out terus dan bergitulah seterusnya hingga hujung minggu aku kl.Apa macam ni digi ...

The Malaysian government was quite slow to adopt mobile technologies.
Many countries have licenced 3G to their Telcos much earlier than us.
Our neighbours S'pore, Thailand, and Indonesia are the examples. 4G is
now in development too.

I think, they are doing quite well. I live in a small town in the East
Malaysia, the coverage was zero 2 years ago. Now I can get 80% full
bars.

emfung, 80% full bar for Digi is absolutely perfect but for me living in area which located less than 10km from KLCC enjoy the MAX 1~2 bar for CELCOM and no network most of the time. Can u imagine how bad the situation is?
