It has been overlooked by many because it is deemed just too pretty to be taken seriously as a phone. Some of the tech bourgeoisie will not even be caught dead with it.

Nonetheless, I tell you now that you'd be surprised with what this pretty little thing can do.

The Nokia 7390 looks every bit like a phone that would be a hit on the fashion runways of New York, London, Paris and Milan.

The external display comes complete with three shortcut keys that help you navigate between three functions – camera, music player and radio.

And since these keys are quite sensitive,

a keylock option has been included to avoid any accidental touches.

It may take a bit of effort to flip this plus-size phone open but once it's done,it will reveal stereo speakers (one on the earpiece and the other on the mouthpiece), a large silver-bordered internal display, internal camera lens and a nice flat keypad.

Most phones usually have the power button on the keypad or on top of the phone but the 7390's power button is on the side. When it is on the side like this, I just had to hold it naturally and push the button to get things started.

Feature-packed

Being pretty is not a crime especially when you have the substance to go along with it. In the case of the 7390, it has everything from a 3-megapixel camera to 3G connectivity.

The first thing that caught my interest was the 3-megapixel autofocus camera.

The external lens is on the back of the phone so you can take pictures even with the phone closed.

However, it is going to be tricky to take a self portrait because the internal lens is used only for video calls and there is no mirror for the main camera.

The camera is just about good enough for the point and shoot photography. Although it has autofocus, there's nothing much you can do with the ISO settings and its macro shots could have been better.

Besides being a 3G phone, the 7390 also passes off admirably as a music player. The stereo speakers amplify every song and make them sound crisp and clear. There's also a flight mode so you can use it on a plane.

But with only 21MB built-in memory, you definitely have to invest in a MicroSD card if you want to bring your music collection along with you.

Other useful features packed into this pretty package are a size converter and scientific calculator.

The size converter helps especially when you're buying apparel that follows the sizing convention of their country of origin. For instance, a UK dress size 10is actually a US dress size eight. Though it's handy to have, I found it unreliable especially if you're smaller than a size eight.

The calculator also does more than to just help you count change. It has Sine, Cosine and Tangen functions and gives you the value of pi. This is great for trigonometry but I don't think they allow mobile phones into exam halls.

The other side

Beauty is only skin deep as they say so this phone is not without its faults.

My first gripe is that the phone takes a while to spring into life once you flip it open. It's also a bit difficult to flip it open with one hand. Perhaps I have small hands but I had to use two hands to lift it open most of the time.

Another thing that bugged me a lot was the fact that I had to open the phone to read my text messages, which is a waste since the phone has such a large external screen.

However, these drawbacks didn't really bother me much as the intuitive user interface, stylish design and great features more than made up for all these flaws.

And the best thing is, the battery lasted up to four days even with heavy usage during the course of this review.

Pros: Stereo speakers; 3-megapixel camera; good battery life; elegant design.

Cons: Limited internal memory; hard to flip open with one hand.
