Nokia BH-902 Review

By Sandeep Hari

Positives
- OLED Screen
- Comfortable To Wear
- Portable Design

Negatives
- Loudness Not Up to Expected Level

Unboxing
The package and the contents of the package that the BH902 comes in are just like with any other headset. The packaging enables you to see the headset without opening it.

Here’s what is included in the packaging:

* Nokia Bluetooth Headset BH-902
* Nokia Compact Travel Charger AC-5
* Carrying strap or clip
* User guide Review unit courtesy of WOM

Design and Construction
The design of the BH-902 is the typical Nokia design seen in many headsets. It measures 25×53x12mm and weighs 18.3 grams which is very light without even considering the amount of features it offers.

The front surface houses an OLED screen and it is one of the first headsets to have one. The headset has been given a glossy black finish to the front and back (with some sparkling). The sides have been painted in silver and this colour combination can be seen in the Nokia N96 and there is no doubt that the headset will complement the phone. On the left side of the phone are the Volume Up/Down and Answer/End keys. To the right side of the device, you can find the Power key. The earpiece is on the back side, the microphone at the bottom and the charger socket is at the top. The headset is very solid, no loose parts.

Keys /Controls
The controls/keys on the device are the Answer/End, Volume Up/Down keys and the Power button. The keys are very easy to press and provide good feedback. The power button is made a bit sturdy as compared to the other keys and this has been done correctly because it would have caused accidental switching on/off of the headset.

Comfort and Usage
One of the main advantages of the BH-902 is being comfortable to wear and this is a very important aspect to consider when buying a Bluetooth headset. It is easy to wear on the ear and can be worn on both ears thanks to the ear hook. The ear hook holds the headset firmly in place (to our ear). Being light-weight, it is easy for you to do your normal activities without being distracted by the headset.

When not in use, the headset can be clipped on to a shirt/t-shirt using the provided clip.

Now coming to the usage. The pairing of the device is nothing to worry about. People who have less knowledge can also pair it to a device thanks to the OLED screen which gives us the passcode once we are in the pairing mode. By default it is set to 0000 as on all headsets. The OLED screen displays various things. It shows the Bluetooth and Battery icons and the Time in white font. Also when you receive a call/message, the headset notifies you and also shows the name/number of the person trying to contact you. Also when you receive a message, a message icon appears on the screen. Pressing the power button of the headset once brings up the Call Manager on your paired phone.

Sound Quality
Well, the sound quality on the headset is something I can call good thanks to the Digital Sound Processing (DSP). But the one problem is that the loudness from the ear piece is not enough to complement the good sound quality. There is also a slight hiss through the headset. So while this headset is suitable for conversations, it is not an ideal solution to listen to music. A stereo headset would be better for that purpose.

Battery Life
Nokia claims the headset to have a talk time of up to 8 hours, a standby time of up to 110 hours and a charging time of 2 hours. In reality I think you should get a battery life around the suggested figures. For the time I used it, it gave a good performance.

Conclusion
If you want a headset that is really easy-to-use and is portable, this is the headset to use giving you an OLED Screen as a bonus too. The only defect that I can point out is the loudness but even that does not impact the coolness of the device and how cool you will look when wearing one.
